Open meets are individual swimming competitions that are entered by parents or swimmers, rather than selected by the club. Carlton Forum Swimming Club targets several open meets each year, which are suitable for swimmers at different stages of their competitive journey.
Information about upcoming open meets will be shared via the club’s Facebook page. Parents will be asked to inform Sarah Merryweather (who can usually be found at the register desk) of the events their child would like to enter. If Sarah is not at the desk, please feel free to leave a message with whoever is on the desk at the time, and they will be happy to pass it on or put you in contact with her.
Open meets take place at a variety of leisure centres and involve racing against swimmers from other clubs. There is commonly a fee per event entered, which varies depending on the competition and venue.
Although swimmers compete for themselves, open meets are a great opportunity to:
- Achieve personal bests (PBs)
- Gain qualifying times for competitions such as Counties
- Compete for medals and trophies
- Represent Carlton Forum Swimming Club while racing
For all targeted open meets, there will always be a team manager or coach present to support swimmers throughout the competition.
